Meet Sandro, photographer from Chicago, whose work was featured in Lürzer's Archive numerous times already.
How you got into advertising…
At 16 years old I discovered Irving Penn. It was a life changer. Two years later, I was working for a local photographer and now it's 40 years of advertising bliss mixed in with many personal projects that keep the advertising gigs rolling in.
A run-down of the most recent campaign I worked on…
The most recent campaign was a TV commercial I shot for Oglivy + Mather for the Chicago Blackhawks filming their best players along with fans and young hockey players throughout the Chicago land area. Emotional campaign that was inspired by the great RAM commercial “God made a farmer” with Paul Harvey doing the voice over.

The best piece of creative work around at the moment is…
Spike Jonze directs KENZO World. BRILLANT!
The next big advertising trend is going to be…
A movement for corporations to get their message out by supporting the arts, art projects and art films. Example SQUARESPACE donating to my film Psychogenic Fugue to help me fund the film I did for David Lynch and his transcendental Meditation Foundation. A simple message, Sponsored by SQUARESPACE at the end of the piece went a long way to getting their brand name out there and in such a classy, no pressure way. We need corporations to step up and do a softer sell but do it with meaning and purpose.
The piece of advertising work I wish I had thought of is…
I don’t ever wish I had done something. I do it. I’m a doer not a “I wish I did” guy.
My favorite digital tool/app at the moment…
I hate apps and digital tools. Keep it real. When an app is invented that allows me to continuously have brilliant ideas, I’ll buy it and use it, in the mean time I’ll keep using my brain and creativity.
In a film about my life, I’d like to be played by…
John Malkovich! Why not? He has played every other character in the world that I have asked of him.
A word or phrase I overuse…
Fuckin’ A
My last social media update said…
Too long to post here but it was about a two day intensive class I’m giving on the photography world as I know it. It’s in January if you’re looking to upgrade.
My dream collaboration is…
I just finished working with him. David Lynch.
A piece of criticism I’ve received was…
Don’t believe what the PR people write about you and don’t let the awards you win make you believe you have made it. You’re never there in this business, its just a matter of time.
A great piece of advice I received…
Believe, believe, believe in yourself. If you don’t, who will? Prove your critics wrong!
