Dave Bedwood is Founder & Creative Partner of Cauliflower, London. He started in advertising as a creative in 1998 BD (Before Digital), but ended up in a digital agency in 2000. From there he became a Creative Director at Tribal DDB. In 2004 he went on to launch his own agency with three colleagues, called Lean Mean Fighting Machine. Within 4 years they were the first and only UK Agency to win Cannes’ Interactive Agency of the Year. In 2013 the agency was sold to M&C Saatchi. After that he started working at Analog Folk, but soon realised he wanted to do it all again so resigned and started Cauliflower with Ben Silcox in January 2017.
How you got into advertising in a sentence…
By realising I wasn’t good enough for fine art and too lazy for graphic design.
The most recent campaign I’ve worked on…
5 minutes ago I was writing a script for a whiskey company.
The best piece of creative work around at the moment is…
I experienced a Bjork video in a VR helmet the other day. It was done by ANALOG and was even better than watching her hit a journalist.
The next big thing in advertising is going to be…
Well, I have to say the true collaboration between data and creative. I’m biased. But, then again, if I didn’t believe it I’d never have started Cauliflower.
The piece of advertising work I wish I had thought of is…
The Ploughman’s lunch. Apparently the ‘Cheese Bureau’ invented the dish in the 50’s to sell more cheese. That’s a big idea.
The internet/digital tool I couldn’t live without is…
Tide. An app that makes me concentrate.
In a film about my life, I’d like to be played by…
Hooch of Turner and Hooch fame. He sacrifices himself for the greater good.
A word or phrase I overuse…
Bedwood. That’s B. E. D. W. O.O.D. As in a Bed made of Wood.
My last social media update said…
And we’re off. What better way to do it than with the longest startup website ever: www.cauliflower.team
My dream collaboration is…
Writing a comedy with Stan Laurel.
A piece of criticism I’ve received was…
Stop touching yourself.
The last piece of music I listened to was…
Dollar Days – Bowie. I’d like to think I was a cold fish, but this song nearly, only nearly, makes me get wet eyeballs.
