How you got into advertising in a sentence…
I spent most of my adolescence watching MTV, drawing, writing and producing video clips for local bands, writing songs and playing the electric guitar. It was in High School then, I realized I could channel all my passions into a specific career: "Publicity and Advertising". It was love at first sight, but my parents were not very keen about it. They demanded me to pick a different major: Computer Engineering. To make a long story short, I did the unspeakable: I forged my dad's signature on the consent form so I could take the University Admission Test for the Publicity and Advertising Course, since my dad would never sign it. I passed and delivered the news. They were mad and we didn't speak for 6 months. But at the end, we got to terms and they understood that even with a bad start, it was the right thing to do and I wouldn't be happier.
The most recent campaign I’ve worked on…
We have recently come up with an idea for a traditional Brazilian Bookstore in which a simple bookmark would become a powerful thing to raise awareness and to help women fight sexual harassment in Brazilian public transportation. And we are producing a campaign called "Banned Songs" for a radio station network, that will ban songs from its playlist that bring sexist content or messages that denigrate women in any way.
The best piece of creative work around at the moment is…
I am deeply in love with a campaign that started with two friends of mine from Ogilvy Ny (Arthur Lipori and Caro Rebello) called "Refugee Nation". It is about a country created from scratch, having even an anthem and a flag. A nation of refugees created to compete in Rio 2016 Olympic Games. It is an inspiring work that continues going viral and growing even after the games are over.
The next big thing in advertising is going to be…
I believe that advertising is swerving more and more towards entertainment, good stories being told with new technologies (such as VR, for instance), and everything surrounded by lots of craft (after all, everybody loves great looking ideas).
The piece of advertising work I wish I had thought of is…
Wow, tough question. There are many! Ever since "Think Small” to “Write the Future” but I still get excited every time I see the classic print: "Michael Jordan 1 x 0 Isaac Newton" for Nike.
The internet/digital tool I couldn’t live without is …
Undoubtedly Adobe Photoshop. I have used it everyday since 2002. It is an amazing tool that helps me pay my bills and give life to ideas.
In a film about my life, I’d like to be played by …
Stallone, for sure! Rocky Balboa is my all time movie hero. P. S. Since now I have a movie about my life, would it be possible to get John Hughes to direct it?
A word or phrase I overuse …
“Assholes are not welcome.”
My last social media update said…
"Here is Vasco, P@#$%!"- My soccer team has not been performing well in recent years, per say. Whenever it wins, it is a blast on social media!
My dream collaboration is...
Play guitar with Eddie Van Halen, make TV spots with Mr.T, working with amazing guys who are out of the advertising circuit as David Carson, Ed Fella, Basquiat. In advertising guys like David Droga and Chuck Porter, in Brazil guys like Pedro Izique, Rafael Gil, Rodrigo Castellari, Fabio Seidl, Leo Macias and Marcos Medeiros. Any of these names would be a big dream come true.
A piece of criticism I've received was...
Don't you think you drink too much Red Bull?
The last piece of music I listened to was...
It was probably "While The Song Remains The Same" by Noel Gallagher
