Michael Weinzettl on the Lürzer's Archive Student of the Year 2017 competition, awaiting your vote now.
Since 2004, we’ve been encouraging young ad creatives, i.e. students of advertising at ad schools and institution worldwide, to submit their work to us (in a special "Student Contest" section found under Submission) and in each print issue of Lürzer's Archive, we dedicate two pages to ad campaigns created by them.
Work by students that gets a coveted place in the magazine automatically becomes nominated for the Student of the Year Award. In July and August, a year’s worth of students’ work is featured on our website, where our readers are able to vote for the campaign which they think deserves our prestigious award.
Based on these votes, the top five campaigns are then judged by a jury of top ad creatives and yours truly, to decide who will be our next Student of the Year.
Which is why today I should like to ask you, our readers, to help find the Lürzer’s Archive Student of the Year. Eligible for consideration is all work featured in the "Students Contest" category in issues Vol. 4/2016 to Vol. 3/2017. You can vote for your favourite by visiting the nominee gallery, click on the thumbnail and hit “Yes”. Get your vote in before the deadline, which is Thursday, 10 August 2017.
Also, I recently caught up with last year’s winner, Jessica Mantovani, now an art assistant at Ogilvy Brasil in Sao Paulo who won the Student of the Year Award 2016 for a simple yet clever spread for Bic brand pens which she created while studying at Miami Ad School ESPM, Sao Paulo. Her instructor at the time was Toni Rodrigues, who's also a seasoned CD at Ogilvy Brasil. I asked her about how her life has been since she won the award and this is what she told me:
"It's been almost year since I had the great opportunity to win the Student of the Year Award, and since then I've been working at Ogilvy Sao Paulo. It was a great way to finish my student life. It's a recognition for a few and that will be marked in my life forever. This past year I've had the opportunity to help with important campaigns here at Ogilvy Sao Paulo and was able to learn a lot alongside great professionals, besides devoting myself to a personal project. This recognition brought good things to my life and I hope it will do the same for the next Student of the Year."
