The title of my blog is a bit misleading I'm afraid. This week I'll just give you a look at the print and film winners at this year's D&AD that have been featured by Archive before, or are about to be featured in our "Cannes issue" traditionally Vol. 3, which will be out in 6 weeks or so. This makes for the Lion share of actual winners but there were also some new discoveries, i.e. work which, for whatever reason, I had not seen before. However, for these you will have to wait another week. Among them there will also be shortlisted work. It was all a bit confusing this year at the D&AD because what was presented as winning work was in fact pencil winners as well as shortlisted stuff. Or so I thought until I found out, that in order to keep some of the suspense going around which ad won, it would only be revealed at the awards' ceremony on Thursday (i.e. the last night).
So the final results that greeted me this morning were: Three Black Pencils, the highest accolade, had been awarded this year. These went to: Palau Pledge by Host /Havas for the Palau Legacy Project. This would have run in the Digital section of the magazine, had any of our guest judges picked it as one of their favourite Top 15 digital works. Obviously none did. It’s a Tide Ad by Saatchi & Saatchi NY for Procter & Gamble (Film Advertising), which you could first see in Vol. 2-2018 of Archive. The third Black Pencil went to Fearless Girl by McCann New York for State Street Global Advisors (Outdoor Advertising), which featured in our magazine last year, in Vol. 4-2017.
