When did you first know you wanted to be a photographer?
As a 10-year-old kid on a family vacation to New York in the summer of 82’. Instead of taking traditional holiday snapshots, I got creative with my first camera (a Kodak Ektra 22) and captured some pretty decent abstract content of structures and shadows that ended up framed on our walls. I remember really enjoying the process of slowing down and observing my surroundings in a compositional manner. I obviously had no idea that I eventually would end up making photography my way of making a living, but the seed was definitely planted on that trip.
You’re inspired by who or what?
Ordinary people who show courage and strength in great adversity.
How has the pandemic affected you?
Well ... most of my clothes no longer fit me.
What is your take on the future of advertising?
If only I had a crystal ball. But advertising is part of the capitalist model that is the jet fuel our world runs on, so it is likely here to stay. But it will be interesting to see in the next few years, where the pendulum swings as per trends.
A run-down of the most fulfilling campaign you worked on … ?
Possibly one of the more fulfilling ones, was the pro-bono campaign I did for homeless vets. The campaign was used to help raise awareness and resources to build micro homes for homeless veterans in multiple cities across Canada. To have the ability to work on a project that directly helped change hard hit people’s lives for the better…honestly … that was a good feeling.
Which do you prefer, still or motion?
I really appreciate both mediums, but I am a stills photographer.
Instagram or Facebook or…?
What would your ideal job be or consist of?
Equal measures of a healthy budget, a great creative brief and travel.
