An advent calendar full of digital awesomeness.
Christmas Experiments, an Advent for developers, is a twist on the traditional December calendar. The site, ChristmasExperiments.com is made by digital artists, with a new project from a new different designer each day.
The project is a follow on from last year’s experiment. “We wanted to create a web exhibition for Christmas which features digital artists,” says the Creative Sandbox project.
“So we came up with the idea of an advent calendar where the chocolate is replaced by web experimentation. This concept was perfect because it allowed us to highlight one artist and his inspiration every single day – exactly what we wanted. One of the biggest challenges was to find digital artists who could make beautiful experimentations in limited time.”

The technical bits
The website is constructed to focus on experimentations and offer each artist the maximum freedom to make whatever they want. Each experiment gets its own page and is loaded inside a full-screen iframe. With this architecture, the participant can work with the technology and the organisation of code without thinking about how it’ll be integrated in the final design.
“For us, it's the passion of participants for creation, design, web and new technology which made this project a success.
“They all worked hard on their experiments, for free, to create a poetic, fun, impressive experience for the viewers before Christmas. This spirit definitely lifted up the project and we’re sure the viewers can feel it.”
