UK biscuit brand, McVities launches an innovative campaign to destroy cookies via a Chrome extension.
British maker McVities is declaring war on cookies (those that know exactly what websites you've visited and then annoy you with related online ads and pop-ups later that day) with “Shoot the Cookies” – a Google Chrome extension that helps turn your browser into a game that helps you delete cookies.
So how does it work? McVities worked with digital agency Hello Sunshine in order to save its customers from this annoyance and defeat all evil, McVitie's have been working with digital agency 'Hello Sunshine’ – which is part of Fred + Farid Group. They created the website Shoot the Cookies, which users can visit to install an extension in their Chrome browser.
The extension scans your computer for cookies then deletes them. The brand is even posting submitted users’ scores on their Facebook brand page.
“All cookies are bad and annoying that's why McVitie's created clever tool - #ShootTheCookies which deletes cookies from your computer,” says the project description.
“As an honest, good British brand producing biscuits we hate cookies. This simple Chrome extension doesn’t give many options to them. It doesn’t add or block cookies it simply destroys them. Just choose cookies from the list and delete them with a simple mouse click. #ShootTheCookies.”
