Vine was 2013’s social media star and brands have been quick to make use of the clip sharing platform. One of the most innovative was Airbnb’s “Hollywood & Vines” by Mullen SF and B-Reel.
"Hollywood & Vines" is a first-of-its-kind short film made entirely of Vine videos. Together with Mullen SF and directed by Miles Jay, the story follows the transformative journey of a simple piece of paper.
Over a four-day live event, director Miles Jay live tweeted 140 character shot descriptions asking fans to pick a shot and make a Vine. Using the #AirbnbHV hashtag over 750 submissions were collected from 14 US States and nine countries. In the end 100 Vines were selected and edited into a final short film about travel, adventure, and finding your place in the world.
B-Reel managed the different social channels and developed a fully responsive and mobile optimised website. Here they aggregated everything from the shot descriptions and storyboard illustrations.
Along with every shot description the agency included a stylised storyboard illustration to help give some visual context to over 40 plus scenes. They produced a selection of illustrations to help spark some imagination and creativity.
“It must have worked because the submissions were amazingly creative and blew us away,” says B-Reel.
