INTRODUCING 200 BEST ILLUSTRATORS WORLDWIDE

It’s with great pleasure that we can finally announce the publication of the fifth edition of our 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide special. Editor-in-Chief Michael Weinzettl tells us what to inspect in the long awaited book – including 130 new artist entries.

The collection of top-class illustration work that awaits you was selected from a total of more than 5,100 submissions received from 1,050 illustrators based in no fewer than 67 countries, thus making it – as always – a truly international affair.

Following pre-selection by Dr. Matthew Eve - art/design historian and illustrator - and myself, some 1,200 works were then presented to our jury which assessed both creativity and craftsmanship of the illustrators.

The jury consisted of Craig Frazier, Illustration Designer for NY Times, Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Adobe and the U.S. Postal Service; Anne Telford, Editor-at-Large of Communication Arts; Gideon Amichay, former CCO & Joint Managing Partner at Shalmor Avnon Amichay/Y&R Tel Aviv, founder and CCO of NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, YES New York, as well as and teacher at the School of Visual Arts in NY and Tolga Büyükdoganay, Creative Director and Art Director, Ogilvy & Mather Frankfurt am Main.

The submissions from 200 illustrators that made it through this second round hail from a total of 39 countries with the US leading the field with 46 illustrators, followed by Germany with 24, and the UK with 18. Brazil is represented by 15 artists, Canada by 12, and Australia, Austria and the Netherlands each notch up seven. Among the nations featuring with just one artist each are Nigeria, South Korea and Iran.

After two rounds of voters’ polls as well as deliberations with our worldwide distributors and our editorial team, our choice of cover fell on Brian Stauffer’s illustration for a New York Times piece about why many have become distrustful of and disillusioned with the US government.

A frequent problem with periodic publications such as this title is that one tends to come across the “usual suspects” over and over again. I am thus particularly happy to report that a stunning total of 130 artists showcased in this volume have appeared in none of the previous editions of 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide. In others words, there a plenty of discoveries you’ll be able to make.

Only two illustrators of the remaining 70, internationally acclaimed American Anita Kunz and German Olaf Hajek, have featured in all five editions. If you are familiar with their work, this certainly won’t come as a surprise.

The 296-page book also features an interview with one of the jurors; internationally acclaimed illustrating designer Craig Frazier. The book will be available from August 15th via Amazon, our website and can be ordered from selected book and magazine stores. If you want to order it right now, please send us an email.
