Next year Lürzer’s Archive will reach its 30th anniversary and we are at present planning various celebrations to mark this milestone. Michael Weinzettl gives you a chance to send your birthday wishes and be a part of it…

We have a wish for our upcoming 30th birthday: If we have nourished your creativity at any point in the past three decades, have helped you with your work, we’d love to give you the opportunity to send us a brief birthday video message.
On the right are a few favourites from 2009, back when creatives sent us their messages to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Elaborate or just a simple “Happy Birthday” – we would love to hear from you. Just upload your video to YouTube and share the link with us. Alternatively, you can record your message on Instagram and mention @luerzersarchive plus the hashtag #Luerzers30.
Another thing which will come out later this year is a weekly calendar in which we present 53 of the most striking print ads or posters that were featured in Archive over its thirty-year history.
If you’re under a certain age you might groan now - a print calendar in this day and age! But there are still a lot of ‘print as print’ fans out there and it should make a very attractive decorative piece for your walls or desk.
It was a quite a trip down memory lane to go through all the fantastic work that has amassed in our online archive and select the 53 ads that will be featured. Of course there is no way that I could have looked at all of the 50,000 print campaigns we have featured between Vol. 1/1984 and our upcoming Vol. 5/2013 (which should be out in the next couple of weeks).
For the selection of motifs I had to work intuitively and rely on what I remember as especially outstanding from the past three decades – I have been with Archive since Vol. 2/1987. The archive (which is available to all our online subscribers) led me to some fantastic treasures from the history of advertising waiting to be rediscovered and put back into the limelight.
Of course it was difficult to choose a mere 53 great ads and for a brief moment I thought it would have been much better to do a daily calendar with 365 ads that span the print highlights published in the magazine. But the logistics of that endeavour are too daunting in comparison to the more doable weekly page tearing.
So here are some of the highlights that you may – or may not – find in our 30 Years of Lürzer’s Archive calendar once it’s published:
