Bo Hellberg is Executive Creative Director at Brave and HeyHuman, London. He got into advertising “because law and marine biology didn’t really plan out”.
The most recent campaign I’ve worked on...
At Brave we have been working on an awesome campaign for El Jimador Tequila. It’s for North America and is quite different to the normal spirits advertising; it’s all about “Beauty out of Chaos”, so we went to the Detroit and created some chaos. It’ll be out early 2015.
HeyHuman is agency on record for Guinness Africa. Rather than just doing ads, we suggested putting on a branded gameshow, called “Game On”. It’s a bit like X-factor with celebrity coaches; hosts. The show has just launched in a couple of markets and is becoming crazy popular.
The best piece of creative work around at the moment is...
There’s a lot of good stuff going on globally. I guess what has stayed with me for a while is the “Sound of Honda – Ayrton Senna 1989”. I saw it earlier in the year, I judged it in Cannes and it just stuck with me.
The next big thing in advertising is going to be...
ROBOTS! One of the coolest things this year was “Tate After Dark” where you remote controlled robots roaming around the Tate Gallery. It was awesome – not just from an ideas point of view, but the whole experience. I do believe it’s more important for brands to be interesting, than right.
Interesting like ROBOTS!
The piece of advertising work I wish I had thought of is...
Not so much I wish I had thought of it, but I still come back to Pereira O’Dell’s “Beauty Inside” for Intel/Toshiba. Love the writing and the story. And it won an Emmy.
The digital tool I couldn’t live without is...
Probably the Uber app.
In a film about my life, I’d like to be played by...
Kanye West. He’s the biggest creative director around, right? (Kanye vs Creative)
A word or phrase I overuse ...
A bad one, that begins with mother and ends on a verb.
My last social media update said...
It was an Instagram of a zombie mosquito.
My dream collaboration is...
Something with Shane Smith along the lines of absolute world domination. That’d be pretty cool.
A piece of criticism I’ve received was...
“Why do you have to be so tall?”
The last piece of music I listened to was...
Donald Byrd “Hush”.
