What if all it took to time travel was a pair of headphones? That’s the promise of New World’s End, an immersive audio experience created by OH! Stories Singapore. The audio walking tour invites you to explore a lesser-known part of Singapore, both geographically and historically. You’ll discover the historic Jalan Besar neighborhood and the long-gone New World Amusement Park, a place emblematic of a forgotten era of Singapore’s history – a time of glittering cabarets and soulful jazz and neon alleys that twist like smoke.

A young Asian woman, with her phone in her hand, stands in front of a building and light display at night.

Your guides on this journey are the characters Kiran, a cinema projectionist, and Rosa, a cabaret dancer, audio ghosts who’ll show you their old haunts and memories – through back alleys and hidden fantasy rooms across Jalan Besar. The experience is a unique way to trace Singapore’s past and a treat for anyone who’s a sucker for historical fiction or Jazz Age love stories.

While the tour is a permanent installation, the best time to experience it is at night from Wednesday to Sunday. It’s not just perfect for the mood of the piece, but you also escape Singapore’s oppressive heat. Plus, you can end your tour at Exit Stage Left, a concept bar that serves up a sensory conclusion to the story of Kiran and Rosa.
