More Info
This one is actually very hilarious. Netflix wanted to promote their
sex-and-drugs-and-violence-filled show Narcos Mexico in Thailand,
but they did not know how hard it was going to be with Thailand’s
out-of-this-world censorship laws – originally not realizing that they
would have to cut from their advertising anything not allowed under
these laws. Yet instead of editing out the “bad” scenes, Netflix simply
cropped around the risky images, leaving an outline for people to in any
case recognize what had been removed, thus creating an even greater
buzz around the series!
Darre van Dijk: “One of the best ideas I have seen this year. Netflix
introducing Narcos in Thailand, a country in which everything is censored.
They censored the series in such an original way that it ever more people
wanted to watch it. I bet VPN was bought massively so the Thai people
were also able to watch the original. A very clever way to get attention – by
hijacking censorship. Gold for me. ”
